On April 09, a professor delegation of Social Policy from University of York, United Kingdom (UK) visited and learned about Quang Trung Software City (QTSC).
The delegation led by Prof. John Hudson, Head of Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of York. CEO of QTSC Lam Nguyen Hai Long welcomed them with a brief introduction of QTSC’s establishment and development process in the past 18 years.
The professors were very interested in which Vietnamese Government’s incentives and policies QTSC has enjoyed. Mr. Long also shared that from the initial years of establishment, QTSC was one of twelve key projects of Ho Chi Minh City to build the city being a leading science and technology center in Vietnam. QTSC has been the first and largest software park of the country, so it has received a lot of incentives from the Government, HCM City People's Committee such as preferential policies for investors in leasing land to attract more employees working in QTSC, tax incentives and some policies to encourage investment in high-tech zones.

According to KPMG Vietnam, QTSC has been ranked 3rd out of 8 Asia’s top software parks in 2017, based on the assessment of operational performance using indicators such as occupancy rate, quality of supporting services, on-site infrastructure, etc. The analysis has also placed QTSC 4th among its peers in terms of attractiveness of FDI, number of companies located in the park, concentration rate of IT sectors, quality of human resources, etc. Overall, QTSC stood out for its investment incentives, presence of tenants from various industries, and the sustainable growth of companies located in the park, Long added.
QTSC has taken the initiative to apply technologies to be more modern and reach to become the smart city model by implementing many IoT applications. All is to improve the quality of administration, increase the local community’s satisfaction and bring the QTSC brand name being the leading software park in Asia.
Furthermore, Long also shared QTSC’s development orientation in the near future. In the first 5 years of establishment, QTSC had focused on the goal of infrastructure construction and investment attraction, then the 5 years next QTSC’s mission was to attract human resources, support enterprises to promote software outsourcing so as to accumulate good experience and financial stability. In recent years, QTSC has strongly determined R&D is the core factor to create new growth motivation. As the results, in 2018, QTSC built R&D Labs with the aim to provide a research and development space of products and solutions, support enterprises in research activities and technology application, as well as attract many more leading experts in the field of R&D technology.

Concluding the meeting, the delegation visited 5D Company, a startup with many new technology applications, operating at QTSC R&D Labs. Here, University of York’s professors were introduced its new research using plasma rays to filter drinking water. According to Mr. Ngo Duc Chi, co-founder of the company, water filters in the market now use filters, activated carbon, etc. to filter but not completely kill microorganisms. Using plasma rays has the effect of destroying almost all them to ensure the safety for users. Currently the research is in the process of completing and expected to commercialize soon.
