Recently, VMT Solutions has completed a survey project on status of a ship's engine room by the 3D laser scanning technology. This aims to support the design and installation process of Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) at Go Dau Port, Vung Tau City.
Under the International Ballast Water Management Convention, most ships will need to install an on-board ballast water treatment system. The Convention seeks to prevent the spread of harmful aquatic organisms from one region to another, by the establishment of standards and procedures for the management and control of ships’ ballast water and sediments.
VMT Solutions is responsible for survey, 3D laser scanning technology and customer support in the process of creating a set of drawings for installation instruction, machinery, pipe systems, electrical systems, building material statistics and so on, to help accelerate installation progress of BWTS for large cargo ships of more than 27 meters in width and more than 169 meters in length.
According to Mr. Huynh Si Nguyen - CEO of VMT Solutions, normally, a merchant ship will be permitted to stay in the port within a few days to unload cargo, then it will continue its voyage to another country, so the laser scan survey should be implemented by professional companies, as well as surveyors have both knowledge and experience in installing BWTS. From that, the information for design and installation process is not omitted, because the additional survey is completely impossible as the ship leaves the port.
In particular, the survey mission is how to collect all details of the existing BWTS, including empty space of ship, pipe systems, electrical systems, etc. As a result, applying 3D laser scanner in surveying is the most suitable and optimal solution. Following that, the survey process is conducted quickly and simply, without affecting the operation schedule of the ship. Within one day, VMT Solutions will collect all the necessary information for the installation design. The next stages are based on point cloud data, and installation drawings are completely carried out in the office.
