Vietnam IT enterprises are facing a great opportunity when AT Kearney 2019 recently released the GSLI Index Report, in which Vietnam ranked 5th out of 50 countries with good background in information technology services. This demonstrates the potential of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City for new technologies so that Vietnam becomes a leading destination in Southeast Asia for new technologies and innovation.
In order to achieve Vietnam's long-term goal of becoming "The Emerged Destination for Innovation" of Southeast Asia, human resources is one of the most important issues for IT businesses, especially R&D. However, the human resource of Industry 4.0 is still a new concept that universities and colleges have yet to focus on, leading to a shortage of human resources. If Vietnam has clear goals, strategies and solutions, human resources will be an opportunity for Vietnam's high technology development, which also needs the cooperation of VNITO enterprises.
Manpower in the 4.0 era: attracting and retaining talents
“In this industry, new businesses compete greatly on the number of engineers. This is a competition of human resources and creating an environment/wastewater of innovation. Human resources for innovation do not usually have certain salary standards. For them the environment/wastewater to experience and to do creative projects is more important than the salary. Therefore, we will compete by creating valuable and interesting projects that create many learning opportunities for younger people in order to attract talents and earn a better chance of winning,” Mr. Nguyen Cong Ai – Vice President of KPMG Vietnam.
According to Annie Nguyen, Business Development Manager of BeeSight Soft, “Competition in today's ITO market is not just about customer competition. In fact, VNITO's companies have joined together to exploit the markets quite effectively. The current competition is about qualified and experienced human resources. We cannot compare with large corporations or foreign companies with "huge" capital invested in Vietnam or attract talents; however, with the size of the company, our strength is our flexibility, enabling employees to learn and improve continuously. We also have personal development programs for key people, programs that build cohesion through trust, sense of security and a happy working environment/wastewater.”
Solutions to retain talented people in parallel with training new talents
At present, the IT human resource market in Vietnam is very hot. More and more start-ups or foreign companies are investing in Vietnam. Youngsters are having a lot of opportunities and choices, creating many pressures on personnel to companies. Not to mention that the current companies of VNITO are developing at a rate of 20-30%, the need to increase personnel is also a difficult problem to solve. In the context that human resources are undergoing a major shift and there are multiple signs of unfair competition that disrupt the IT industry's human resources in Vietnam and affect normal business activities, technology companies must regularly conduct market surveys and make adjustments to ensure that the wage and benefit policy is competitive.
Mr. Vuong Bao Long - Vice President of LogiGear said: “We believe that people are the most important factor and all LogiGear employees are the invaluable assets of our company.” We always focus on training activities, especially the training of new technologies and techniques, as well as creating the best conditions for long-term career development with LogiGear. At the same time, we are committed to building and maintaining a professional working environment/wastewater and corporate culture that encourage continuous improvement, close attention, openness, recognition and appropriate autonomy to attract talents and create a favorable environment/wastewater for creative LogiGear talents.
Mr. Tran Phuc Hong – Vice President of TMA shared: “TMA has always been steadfast with its long-term goal of becoming Southeast Asia's leading innovation center, TMA has prepared human resources for many years through cooperation with domestic and foreign universities, including hiring foreign experts and carrying out many projects for foreign customers in order for engineers to learn new technologies and gain experience, because new technologies such as data science and artificial intelligence are not areas that can be done quickly. If engineers want to be truly successful in these fields, they have to gain real experiences through constant practices.”
